Birth Stories and Testimonials

The Trever Family, Salida CO

I wanted a home birth with a midwife for my second child and found one in Colorado Springs after doing much research and interviewing. Then my husband accepted a job in Salida and we would be moving before my daughter was born! I found Mountain Family Midwifery online and emailed Alli Gober asking if I could transfer care to her. She called me promptly and was very helpful with my questions and concerns I set up a time to meet with her when I was in Salida and I felt huge relief that I felt comfortable with her and that she was so knowledgeable and professional, like my other midwife I had found in the Springs. Starting at 30 weeks, my prenatal care came to my home and was reassuring, individual, and educational. Alli stayed supportive and confident, always saying the most positive things to me making my heart shine! We moved again about 2 weeks before my daughter was born when we found a house and Alli helped us figure out a space for the birthing tub and even helped me unpack my pantry!

Signs of labor came the day before and I was texting Alli all throughout the day and into the evening. She knew that labor was coming and helped me prepare. Early the next morning, I was texting her again with contractions becoming more uncomfortable and then my husband took over texting when I needed to focus. Alli instructed us to get the tub filled with hot water and by the time she got there around 7:30am, I was already getting in! She was a guide to my husband and dad who were helping me through labor and was very positive and supportive of my efforts, letting me know of the progress we were making. I was able to remain calm and confident in my body and my baby. Alli caught her underwater where she first opened her eyes at 10:30am. She handed her to me through my legs and I was able to hold and admire her while keeping her warm in the pool. Nothing was rushed, we had all the time we needed. When we were ready, she helped me with my placenta and with the blood loss in combination of the hot water I started to feel light headed. She recognized this right away and gave my baby to my husband and pulled me out of the tub. I fainted twice and she caught me both times while remained calm and confident. She gave me shots of Pitocin and fed me to help me come back around. She helped me when I was ready to get up and cut the cord and ultimately carried me up to bed and made sure we had everything we needed for our first night together.

She continued to visit my home to check on my baby and I. She found elevated bilirubin levels and was able to help us treat and monitor her without going to the hospital. Alli was amazing and I am so grateful for the wonderful experience I had with her. I would recommend Mountain Family Midwifery and Alli Gober to any expecting mother!

Having Alli and Rachael by our side throughout pregnancy, birth, and our first weeks as new parents was an absolute gift. I was a nervous first-time mother and they brought knowledge, laughter, reassurance and perspective. The relationship that we developed with Alli throughout the pregnancy cultivated confidence in this natural process as well as in her skills as a midwife. They were always available for our questions; they supported me with texts calls and home-visits through some uncomfortable pregnancy symptoms and ran tests to ensure that baby and I were healthy. Alli and Rachael provide education, resources and community connection while empowering parents to lead their own way.

Birthing our baby girl, Eloise, in the peaceful setting of our home allowed for a beautiful, uncomplicated process. I trusted that we were in the best hands with Alli, Rachael (who was an intern at the time) and our doula. The power of the women around me and the steady support of my husband was encouraging and grounding while Eloise was able to enter into a quiet and loving environment (aside from my many not-so-quiet vocalizations of childbirth). My husband was moved by this sisterhood and the calm, informed guidance that these amazing women shared with us.

The luxury of going from the birth-tub directly to my bed where our midwives cared for Eloise and I while the others cooked food and cleaned up the birth supplies was incredible. They supported us in breastfeeding and made sure we were all comfortable before she left for the night. Having our midwives return to our bedside to check in on us in the days after the birth was priceless.

Our family hoped to let this remarkable time in our lives evolve naturally, in the way that felt most nurturing for ourselves and our new baby; that is exactly what Alli and Rachael gave us and we are infinitely grateful.

We feel supremely blessed to have had Alli as part of our family for roughly 10 months. Each visit we looked forward to sharing our lives, questions and concerns about pregnancy, birthing options, and so much more. Alli took the time to hear my husband and I share our excitement, anticipation and elation. Never did we feel that she had an agenda.

Alli provided the best care throughout the delivery. Labor turned into a 30+hour epic- harder than any bike, mulitsport, ski or triathlon race that I had ever endured. We ended up transferring to Summit Medical Center to allow me a 'break' before the 2nd half of delivery. Maintaining Alli alongside that scary and emotionally tough transfer was priceless. Alli and Michelle (our Doula) stayed the entire time with us at the hospital!

Logan Col Zander was born a wee 6lbs, 2oz but he was as strong-willed as a bull. It was his timing for sure. Alli came for home visits the following weeks. The biggest piece we valued was her soft, caring demeanor that enabled us to de-brief the birth. It was a tough experience. Emotional, physical, even spiritual. Realizing that there were no failures, just Logan's birth story, helped us come to terms with the belief that transferring, and not finishing at home, was ok. It was just the way birth turned out.

We would recommend Alli and Mountain Family Midwifery to any family who are looking for MORE out of a birth story. Personalized, loving, intimate. That said, there are decisions you have to research, ask, then own. Alli and her team will guide you if you'd like, but ultimately the choice is yours. Just like raising your child, there are no real blueprints, do what feels right.

What a beautiful gift to experience pregnancy and childbirth with Alli as our midwife. The relationship we cultivated was one of deep trust. She was very generous with her time and expertise, always open to discussing whatever arose for us, whether it was fear, excitement, or those bizarre pregnancy symptoms. Alli’s commitment to us was unwavering. The night I went into labor Alli even slept in her clothes and was in the car driving before she and my husband even hung up the phone. Giving birth at our home was ultimately deeply empowering, yet also beautifully simple in a way that a hospital birth could never be. It just felt right. One of the best parts of all was Alli's postpartum care. It felt like such a luxury in the weeks after birth to stay in our own enchanted nest, with Alli bringing all of the support we needed right to our own door. For such a life-changing event we are so glad we honored ourselves by choosing a home birth with Alli Gober.

Finding Alli was a blessing and I would recommend her to anyone. She provided me with resources that helped me prepare for birth and being a new mother. I anticipated labor and birth to be the most incredible experience of my life, and it truly was. Alli’s competence was reassuring and my complete trust in her helped me relax in the most difficult part of my birth experience - when I felt most scared and out of control in the minutes before my son was born.

Alli treated me with the respect that I was seeking, and helped me feel empowered. She made this experience about me and my family, and ultimately helped me create the birth experience I was hoping and wanting. I am so grateful for her.
